In the slideshow below, notice how all readers are focused on different kinds of conflict, both internal and external. Each reader expresses their ideas in their notebook in a unique way. Some readers are still retelling, while others are doing deeper and more sophisticated thinking about character complexity and relationships. We encourage readers to use their notebooks in a way that works for what they're thinking, where they are in their books and how their brains work. Each reader is different and we want to honor the diversity in their approaches to writing about reading. The best part about this thinking work is that students are showing and teaching these to the class and others are using them as models for jotting.
